Intel Pentium B980 Dual-core Entry-Level Processor

The Intel Pentium B980 is another entry-level dual-core processor for laptop PC. This Pentium B980 runs at the clock speed of 2.4 GHz / 2400 MHz with 2MB level 3 cache, 512kB level 2 cache and 128kB level 1 cache. This laptop processor is based on Sandy Bridge technology without some features present in high-end Intel processors like Turbo Boost for the CPU, Hyper-Threading technology, AES, Virtualization both VT-x and VT-d, Trusted Execution or Intel Quick Sync and some other. It has an integrated graphics controller called Intel HD graphics which is powerful enough for daily computing needs. Aside from the integrated GPU it also offers DDR3 Memory Controller and support 64-bit technology.

This Intel Pentium B980 processor is almost as powerful as the Intel Core i3-2310 dual-core processor which runs at the clock speed of 2.1 GHz even though it does not support Hyper-Threading technology. It has thermal design power of 35 watts which makes it best suited to laptop PCs with sizes from 14 inches and above.

Compare to other processors, this Intel Pentium B980 has a PassMark score of 2301 this is almost as powerful as Intel Core i3-2310M with a PassMark rating of 2375 and Intel Core i3-3217U with a score of 2178. But less powerful compared to Intel Core i3-3110M with a rating of 2909, and Intel Core i5-3210M with a PassMark rating of 3884.

I love the b980 because its just enough for everyday use without spending that much money for overkill. I currently use this - Toshiba Satellite for my everyday tasks and entertainment and my wife loves it. Even though I'm a little older than my son, I think my laptop is more practical than his gaming beast machine lol
