This year Intel has released new processors using 22 nanometer technology and Ivy Bridge architecture. One of those processors is Core i5-3320M for laptop PC. The Intel Core i5-3320M is a dual-core microchip consisting of Central Processing Unit (CPU), Dual-channel DDR3 memory controller, Direct Media Interface, PCI Express 3.0 interface, and HD Graphics 4000 controller.
The Intel Core i5-3320M dual-core processor supports Hyper-Threading technology to be able to enhance the processing power of the processor up to 30%. This processor also features 3MB level 3 cache and runs at the base clock speed of 2.6 GHz. It also supports Turbo Boost technology which has the ability of overclocking automatically the processor’s clock speed when the thermal and electrical aspects are met. Due to Turbo Boost this processor speed up automatically up to 3.1 GHz when both core s are active; and 3.3 GHz when only one of the cores is active.
Other features of this Third Generation processor, Intel Core i5-3320M, includes MMX instruction set, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, Supplemental SSE3, AES instructions, Advanced Vector Extensions, Turbo Boost technology 2.0, Virtualization technology (VT-x / VT-d) and Trusted Execution technology.
With regards to performance, this Intel Core i5-3320M dual-core Ivy Bridge processor has a PassMark Rating of about 3918. This is slower compared to AMD A10-4600M with a rating of 5129, Intel Core i7 2640M with a rating of 4209, Intel Core i7-3720QM which has a rating of 9078 and AMD A8-4500M with a rating of 4174, but faster compared to AMD A6-3400M which has a rating of 3539 and AMD A8-3500M with a rating of 3166.
Furthermore, this Intel Core i5-3320M dual-core processor has a thermal design power of 35 Watts which makes it suitable for laptop PCs with sizes ranging from 14 inch and above.
