Nikon Announces Recall on its EN-EL15 Battery

Nikon has decided to recall some EN-EL15 batteries used in the Nikon D7000, D800, D800E and Nikon 1 V1 cameras.   To identify whether your battery is affected by the issue: Identify the serial number of your battery.

  1. Serial numbers are alphanumeric characters printed at the lowermost of the name plate on the bottom of the battery as shown.
  2. Check the 9th digit of the lot number as indicated below.

    • Should the 9th digit of the EN-EL15 battery serial number is E or F then the battery needs to be replaced as it may be affected by this problem.
    • Should the 9th digit of the EN-EL15 battery serial number is A, B, C, D, G or any succeeding letter in the alphabet then the battery is not dangerous to use.
This problem does not apply to EN-EL15 batteries provided with the D7000 and Nikon 1 V1 acquired before February 29, 2012 or to batteries obtained separately before February 29, 2012.
