Help Sendong's Victims

Tropical Storm Sendong (international name: Washi) destructed Visayas and Northern Mindanao region, crashing it with shattering rains and releasing flash floods and landslides that resulted to a perturbing trace of devastation. The death toll, as of 12PM, has reached 720; in Cagayan De Oro 346, Iligan City 279, Bukidnon 47, Negros Oriental 37, Lanao del Norte 9, Compostela Valley 5, Zamboanga del Norte 3, Surigao del Sur 1.

Most of the deceased were asleep in the middle of the night last Friday when furious floodwaters broken up their homes from rivers and gushed from mountain slopes succeeding 12 straight hours of heavy rains in Visayas and Mindanao. Drowning has been recognized as the main cause of death of most victims. Typhoon Sendong has affected 21 municipalities, 78 barangays and 13,924 families, with 245 injured and 807 reported missing.
