APU is a technology brought to us by AMD wherein the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) were combined together in a single chip, thereby decreasing the bottlenecks (which occur in the previous system configuration) and improving data transfer from the GPU to CPU and vice versa. This technology also affects the power consumption of the system on the positive side, therefore prolonging battery life of the system. The equivalent of the APU technology is the Sandy Bridge chips coming from INTEL.
