Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode ( AMOLED)

AMOLED or Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode ( AMOLED) is a display technology usually used for mobile devices (cellular phones, MIDs, laptops, etc) and televisions. AMOLED display contains matrix of OLED pixels that have been placed into TFT (thin film transistor) array. It serves as a series of switches to control the current traveling to each individual pixel.

Usually, the current flow is regulated by at least two TFTs at each pixel, the first one is used to start and stop the charging of a storage capacitor and the other one is used to deliver a voltage source at the desired level to generate a constant current to the pixel and eradicating the need for the very high currents necessary for passive matrix OLED operation.
